Nearly two years have passed since the launch of Peraton following the sale of Harris’ services business to private equity. Since then, the company’s rich history of success and wealth of capability, coupled with the energy of a newly minted entrepreneurial organization has made the future for Peraton – “a 125-year-old start-up” – extremely bright.

Since its rebranding under the Peraton banner, Peraton Canada has successfully captured new business in support of Canada’s fighter fleet. As a partner to Magellan Aerospace on the CF-18 Propulsion Group Sustainment contract, Peraton provides a full range of supply chain, logistics and subcontractor management services for the F-404 engine and associated aircraft power systems. This new contract, along with Peraton’s well-established position as the prime contractor for support of the full suite of avionics and Automated Test Equipment (ATE) on the CF-18 fleet, are key elements to the mission success of the RCAF.

The past two years have also seen Peraton celebrate some significant milestones. On 25 September 2018, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held at its Canadian regional headquarters in Calgary, Alberta which brought together members of the RCAF, government, and industry to celebrate the delivery of the 50,000th repair in support of the CF-18 fighter fleet. This event simultaneously marked the completion of a $2.5M expansion of the Peraton facility. This world-class facility (now 76,000 sq.ft.) was expanded with “significant future business growth in mind”, said Jim Gillespie, Vice President and General Manager of Peraton Canada. The expanded facility includes labs for the testing, repair, and overhaul of equipment; engineering laboratory space; training facilities; and corporate offices. The new facility also has 22,000 sq.ft. of SECRET warehouse space where Peraton has under its care, control and custody over $870M of Govt Owned Materiel, the largest allocation in Canada.

Capitalizing on this new footprint, Peraton is currently undertaking the transition of second line maintenance and repair labs from DND locations in 4 Wing Cold Lake and 3 Wing Bagotville, to its Calgary location. This is all part of the government strategy to enhance the RCAF first line operations while extending fleet life until 2032. Transition of the labs will not only bring new capability to Peraton but will create a dozen new highly skilled jobs in Canada. With significant growth on the horizon, the Peraton Canada team will continue to grow over the coming year as Peraton looks to increase its staffing by 25%.

Capability Readiness at All Levels
Peraton has not only seen the expansion of its domestic business but also significant growth within its international portfolio. As a premier provider of ATE support internationally, Peraton has developed a variety of solutions to meet foreign military requirements and ensure the availability and performance of the global F/A-18 fleet. Most recently, Peraton was awarded a contract by Switzerland’s Federal Office for Defence Procurement (armasuisse) to supply replacement instruments for the ATE that support the Swiss Air Force’s F/A-18 fleet. As part of this contract, Peraton successfully delivered instrument upgrades and provided all technical publications; engineering data and documentation; installation and verification services; and on-site operation and maintenance training.

Continual refinement of its highly successful in-service support/integrated logistics support (ISS/ILS) capability makes Peraton ready to support the CAF well into the future. “Peraton has a strong customer value proposition with its mission sustainment model,” says Marie Darling, the company’s Canadian Director, Business Development, “We have proven it on Canada’s fighter fleet and are ready to bring it to other platforms to achieve the same successful results”. Peraton is focusing its efforts on developing new business in the Air and Naval domains. As well, Peraton is one of the few Canadian ISS/ILS companies to have extensive experience in managing Performance-Based Logistics contracts. “We’ve been at the forefront of managing and meeting performance targets for a long time now,” offers Gillespie, “and this has made us razor-sharp in reducing total cost of fleet ownership for the RCAF.”

With this high degree of confidence and capability readiness, Peraton looks to secure its future with significant growth in the coming years.
